WoodenBoat magazine
Australian Alan Payne became a leading international yacht designer one in 1962 when his 12-mtere-design GRETEL crossed the AMERICA"s Cup finish line 47 seconds ahead of the American boat WEATHERLY. Payne's design accomplishments outside of the AMERICA's Cup have drawn far less attention, yet are significant in the history of sailboat building, cruising and racing. The November/December issue of WoodenBoat magazine features 'Alan Payne Beyond the AMERICA's Cup,' an article featuring Payne and many of the most acclaimed designs, which are still actively sailed and built. One of the designs is the Payne-Mortlock Sailing Canoe, still raced in South Australia. Copies of the magazine are available at most bookstores and chandleries.
