Doug's Lid

Coober Pedy miner Doug Trenham has Letters Patent on his lid.

He says that one evening in the kitchen after he cooked some vegies he attempted to pour out the excess water. But he burnt his fingers holding on to the hot lid and had to let everything go and the whole lot went into the sink. He thought that there must be a way to avoid this kind of accident, and eventually came up with his "container lid restrainer/drainer", now with Letters Patent number 773215.

The lid in the pictures below is a one-off working prototype that he constructed for his own use. He says he'd be happy to hear from anyone interested in the promotion and mass production of his invention.

So Doug, we 'dip our lid' to your lid.

Family First Party Visit

In the last State election the brand new Family First party managed to win a seat. Now the party has gone National and is fielding candidates on October 9 in all states in both the Upper and Lower Houses. The National leader is Andrea Mason, standing as a Senate candidate for South Australia. She visited Coober Pedy with Roger Kleinig, Family First candidate for Grey.

Miss Mason said that if elected she will be the first indigenous female member in the history of the Federal Parliament.

Miss Mason said that her Party would be surveying all candidates in the coming election to work out how to allocate their preference votes. Sometimes the preferences would go to Liberal, sometimes to Labour. "Family First will work to refocus the Australian political process onto the issue that is most important to Australians- the health and well being of their families." The Party will apply a 'family filter' to all policies being voted on. For details see http://www.familyfirst.org.au

Recently in South Australia the Family First Party successfully made the way open for people suffering from  abuse while in institutional care many years ago to have their cases heard. Family First also succeeded in causing a sex education program scheduled to be trialed in selected SA schools to be modified, so that child same-sex relationships would not be role played.

Miss Mason said that the battle for the balance of power in the Senate would be between Family First and the Green Party.
