Commercial Radio Service for Woomera

The towns of Woomera and Pimba have a new radio station following the commissioning of the Flow 101.7 FM commercial radio service on December 21.

After years of negotiations at both federal and local government levels, the new 24 hour 7 day radio service is a welcome addition to radio in the Far North. The Flow FM service is providing Woomera with a variety of information and entertainment for locals and the many visitors to the 'old Rocket Range'.

The radio service is provided by the Radio Freshstream's Flow FM  network with licensed areas across the Far North and to many parts of of regional South Australia plus some areas in Victoria, NSW and the Northern Territory.

Managing Director of Radio Freshman and Station Manager at Flow FM, Wayne Phillips, who was on site at the commissioning, said, "I am pleased with the coverage of the 101.7 Flow FM radio service with good reception in both towns plus some highway coverage."

The radio service was completed with partial funding from the Department of Communication, Information Technology and the Arts which was formally announced by the Member for Grey, Barry Wakelin last year. The program was aimed at small country regions where there were  poor or no commercial  radio services. Mr Wakelin said he was delighted that the remote far north area was receiving commercial radio under the Radio Black Spot program and congratulated Mr Phillips and his dedicated team.

The radio service was provided with the support of the Department of Defence, 5RRR and many hours of assistance by Frank Woolfe from BAE Systems. Flow FM plays adult contemporary music consisting of current top 40, classic hits, contemporary country and gospel selections.

Flow FM is planning further commercial radio services at Coober Pedy and Roxby Downs.
