Stated yesterday by Michael Wright, the state gambling minister....The costs
of a smart card scheme are unknown and the benefits are unproven..it is
considered premature to introduce a such a scheme...The government does not
intend to introduce such a scheme".
Note - the introduction of a smart card system was recommended by the
Independent Gambling Authority (IGA) in their report on their inquiry into
smart card technologies that was released yesterday.
Note also, the IGA was set up by the South Australian government to advise
them on matters relating to the operation of gambling and gaming in South
Australia.
I am NOT HAPPY!!!!
HOW MANY MORE PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THE GOVERNMENT CONSIDER ITS NOT TOO
PREMATURE TO INTRODUCE THE ONLY SYSTEM THAT WILL BOTH REDUCE THE NUMBERS OF
PROBLEM GAMBLERS IN THIS STATE AND ALLOW THE GOVERNMENT TO COLLECT MONEY
FROM GAMING MACHINES?
OBVIOUSLY TEN YEARS WORTH OF GAMBLING RELATED SUICIDES, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE
ADDICTED TO A MACHINE DESIGNED TO ENTRAP REGULAR USERS, INCREASED CRIME
COMMITTED BY PEOPLE WHO WOULD ONCE RATHER HAVE STARVED THAN TAKE SOMETHING
THAT DIDN'T BELONG TO THEM AND MASSIVE LEVELS OF PERSONAL AND FAMILY DEBT IS
NOT ENOUGH REASON TO DO WHAT IS RECOMMENDED BY THE
REGULATORY/INVESTIGATIONAL BODY THE GOVERNMENT SET UP.
THAT THE SA GOVERNMENT, IN THEIR REFUSAL TO ACT ON THE IGA'S RECOMMENDATION,
PARAPHRASE ONLY THE ARGUMENTS OF THE GAMBLING INDUSTRY AND IGNORE THE
ARGUMENTS OF THE PROBLEM GAMBLING EXPERTS FROM THE CONCERNED SECTOR, SPEAKS
VOLUMES ABOUT THE DEGREE OF INFLUENCE THE GAMBLING INDUSTRY HAS OVER THE
INCUMBENT GOVERNMENT....THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF GOVERNMENT FOR THE
GAMBLING INDUSTRY BY THE PUPPETS OF THE GAMBLING INDUSTRY TO THE DETRIMENT
OF THE PEOPLE.
On the other hand, there is now no reason not to collect signatures on
petitions requesting that the government enable the removal of gambling
machines from various Adelaide suburbs.
The story continues.....
