Letters to Editor
30 November 2006
On Monday 23 October four teachers and one SSO from Fisk Street Primary School in Whyalla set out for a one-week adventure to discover our precious natural gem, opal. On the way we stopped in Woomera where students viewed the many rockets and space travel displays. Then up to Mintabie where we toured sacred sites hosted by Yami and Bronya at Walatina Station.
Back down in Coober Pedy we lunched on pizza made by Nick at Johnís Pizza Bar. Everyone said it was the best pizza they had ever tasted!
We did tours of the Desert Cave and Umoona Opal Mine, and then cooled down at the local swimming pool.
A delicious pork spit was supplied by Drago and Ella Marijanovic for tea, cooked to perfection by Steve Marjanovic.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the stopover and the special opal gifts given to all staff and students by Jo Marjanovic.
Finally, all packed up, tired but happy, the bus returned to Whyalla. It was a great learning experience and one that will be remembered for years to come.
On behalf of the staff I would like to thank all who made our stay in Coober Pedy terrific!
