Short Council Meeting

On Tuesday 15th September at 7pm, the night of the General Meeting of the DCCP, 17 people were waiting outside the locked council chambers door.
It was opened at 7.05.
The meeting started about 2 minutes after that, with only three councilors. Cr Crombie came in a number of
minutes after the meeting started.
At about 8.15 pm the public was told that the meeting was going into closed session, after which it would
resume, and be closed straight away, as all business for the meeting, other than the closed session
business, had been concluded.
As the public was about to be ushered out, Brett Trueman stood up and addressed the councilors and said
that he wanted to know what had had happened to the traditional ‘public speaking time’ of 7.30 pm. He said
he had not heard anything discussed during the meeting on matters that he, and presumably all the other
20-odd public in attendance, wanted to hear.
CEO Renshaw explained that there still was a section called “Deputations” on the agenda, and that is
where the public could address the council, having given previous notice that it was their intention to do so.
