Opals stolen from Coober Pedy motel
SA police News
Far North Police are investigating the theft of a large quantity of opals during a break-in at Coober Pedy on Thursday night.
Between 8pm on Thursday 10 April and 6.30am the following morning, thieves broke into the Comfort Inn Experience Motel at
Coober Pedy and stole opal jewellery and merchandise, including the valuable 'Desert Sea Collection'
of opalised fossil sea shells.
Coober Pedy CIB detectives, Port Augusta Crime Scene examiners and Far North Police are conducting the ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information about the break-in or who becomes aware of someone in possession of or trying to sell the opals is
urged to contact local police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

The 2014 Coober Pedy Opal Festival is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join the volunteer workforce
needed to deliver this fun event.
The volunteer roles available cater for a range of skills, responsibilities and time commitments, providing an
opportunity for everyone to get involved.
Seeking volunteers for the following:
- Novelty event coordinators
- Parade marshals
- Event administration crew
Community events such as this rely heavily on volunteer involvement. By volunteering for the Opal Festival
you will receive free entry to the festival, have fun and know that you are a part of one of the great Coober Pedy events!

The GREAT Breakaways’ Bolt Committee and the District Council of Coober Pedy are inviting Coober Pedy
Community Groups or Causes to apply for the proceeds raised from The GREAT Breakaways’ Bolt in 2014.
Please be aware that the proceeds are yet to be raised and the total amount is unknown until after the
event has taken place on Saturday 31 May 2014. Please be aware that the proceeds raised will be donated to one
Community Group or Cause and not divided among several.
All applications must be written:
- Addressed to The GREAT Breakaways’ Bolt Committee
- Outline what the money raised will be used for within the Community Group or Cause
- Outline how the use of the proceeds will benefit the local community
- Include contact details (postal address, phone number and email address) of Chairperson / President and Secretary
