SACA to visit Coober Pedy Area School

SACA Media 22 May, 2014
Country Cricket Development Officer, Mark Fisher, will travel to Coober Pedy this week as the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) continues its’ local cricket partnership with the region. Fisher will visit the Coober Pedy Area School on Tuesday 27 May, delivering a MILO in2CRICKET up-skilling program to staff and students before putting Reception to Year 3 students through their paces with an in2CRICKET Skills program. The partnership between SACA, the Office for Recreation and Sport, Umoona Tjutagku Health Service, Coober Pedy Council and Oz Minerals was initiated last winter with the aim of establishing a more formal cricket program at all levels. A number of students from the South Australian Aboriginal Sports Training Academy (SAASTA) will also take part in the sessions, exposing them to further leadership and coaching opportunities. “SACA is excited to be involved in this partnership which will provide opportunities for young cricketers,” said SACA General Manager Cricket Operations, Shane Bernhardt. “We are confident that the program will assist in establishing a strong cricket pathway within the local community.” SACA Country Cricket Development Officer, Ben Brown, and Indigenous Sports Development Officer at the Office for Recreation and Sport, Russell Coultard, travelled to the Umoona Tjutagku community late last season for the first time as part of the new partnership. Brown and Coultard delivered in2CRICKET training for all coordinators in the town and carried out the first session of the eight-week program, enabling the coordinators to run the remainder of the sessions.
